Well, I finally caved and decided to try out D&D with some friends. Turns out that it’s honestly fun and nowhere near as uh… socially awkward… as a lot of movies and shows would have you think. At any rate, this is my first character (a human fighter named Barnabus). So far I haven’t really worked out much about him in the way of back story or what his armor should look like but, I was quick to figure out other things…. Like how awesome the facial hair should be and how his fighting style is basically Captain America meets Leroy Jenkins. I’m sure there will be more to follow with him later.

I just kept fiddling around with it until I felt it was less flat and dull.

Finished more Sasameki Koto fanart… This one started out with me taking two panels from one of the most recent volumes at random and redrawing them in my style for a laugh. I’m probably going to start doing more in the way of sketch dumping on there. I’ll only post the stuff I’m happy with on here I’m not dumping so many crappy stick figures on everyone.

Uh… in other news my Bridgman books arrives which is super exciting. I’m really enjoying them so far because I feel like it’s really helping me to understand the mechanical attributes of a figure in motion. They do have a tone to them that assumes that you know what the parts of the body are in advance so I can suggest that anyone who is interested in them read up on some ‘anatomy for the artist’ books first. I have quite a few books hanging around in general so I might do the occasional review or at least do a list of what books I like best and why.

I ended up liking this piece a reasonable amount so I’m going to go ahead and add it to the portfolio section of the blog. This is one of my first attempts at coloring on top of a sketch instead of below it… It’s a pretty fun way to color so I think I’ll be doing it more often.

I decided to actually go on ahead and color the doodle from yesterday some more and this is how it turned out… I’ve really got to stop being so crap about doing backgrounds. I might need to focus on some scenery pieces sometime in the near future. I think I’ll probably go ahead and post this in my portfolio section as well because I’m reasonably pleased with it. It’s one of the first times I’ve ever tried coloring on top of my sketch instead of below it and turns out that’s actually a pretty fun way to work.

Wasn’t in the mood to do gestures tonight so I did a bit of coloring instead. Used a couple of photos of Jesy McKinney who did the face modeling for Ellis in Left 4 Dead 2 for reference. It might be fun to finish it out with some zombies in the background but I don’t know if I’ll do that or not… mostly it was just fun to color until my hand started cramping up.
